The House
A burger bar in Coates
House of Coates is a burger bar and grill in Coates, Minnesota: World Famous Burgers, broasted chicken, baby back ribs and a completely stocked bar.
House of Coates is a burger bar and grill at 16300 Clayton Ave E, in Coates, just off Highway 52. The menu says its burgers are known the world over (at least throughout the County). They average half a pound of lean ground beef, and they are not pre-made patties.
The Swanee Burger, piled high with two slices of bacon, American cheese and fried onions, made Minnesota Monthly's list of the state's greatest burgers, and the menu still says so. Broasted chicken by the quarter or the half, baby back ribs and a 6 oz. top sirloin fill out the plates. The bar is completely stocked.
Fridays mean cod. During Lent, Friday nights turn almost entirely to fish: when CBS Minnesota filmed the fish fry here in 2022, the kitchen said it cooks about 150 burgers on a regular Friday night and closer to 10 during Lent.
The Facebook page keeps the calendar: a booya in October, by the bowl or the bucket, with a meat raffle; corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick's Day; breakfast with the Easter Bunny and homemade cinnamon rolls; and prime rib for Valentine's Day.

Half a pound, never pre-made
Five World Famous Burgers average 1/2 lb. of lean ground beef. A 1/3 pound burger waits for the more conservative eater.
Broasted chicken
A quarter or a half chicken, white, dark or mixed, with french fries, coleslaw and dinner rolls. Or as a sandwich, broasted or char-grilled.
A completely stocked bar
Beer and cocktails from a completely stocked bar. One Google reviewer summed it up: “Fine beer selection.”
